Welcome to my site!
In case you're new here, I'm a psychiatrist, an author, and an educator. You may have seen my interviews in the media or read my book, The Self-Healing Mind. I've spoken with well-known personalities like Kelly Ripa and the former United States Surgeon General -- and I've interviewed grassroots mental health heroes like Archie Green and Ashanti Branch.
I write about practical approaches to mental health including self-care, finding fulfillment, getting your motivation back, and how to talk about suicidal thoughts. You can read my articles in Men's Health and in the Washington Post. When I'm not working, I love cooking, supporting the arts, practicing yoga, and going for long runs under the big Texas sky. I live in Houston with my wife and our two dogs.

Let's work to improve the way we think about and talk about mental health.
